Lara Croft: The Sun Obelisk by Christopher Cole> north
You move north.
Short Tunnel
This is a short tunnel just inside the mouth of the cave. There are some cracks overhead through which beams of sunlight emerge, providing enough illumination to see. The floor of the cave is sandy with a few small rocks here and there. The passage runs north and south and is a comfortable width, with fairly smooth walls.
You hear some faint growling to the north, followed by two quick gunshots. The gunshots echo throughout the cave and then fade away. You don't hear anything else.

Small Chamber
This small chamber also has some cracks in the ceiling above, providing light. The floor is less sandy here and is formed of a more solid rock. The wide passage runs north and south, the walls still relatively smooth. The air is thick and humid, sticking to you like mud.
> x wall
The cave walls are slick with the humidity. You notice some faint markings on the north-eastern section of wall. Taking a closer look, you spot a small notch built into the rock. It looks like a small pressure plate.
> push plate
You push the small notch. It takes a bit of strength, but the notch finally sinks into the rock slightly. You hear a loud sliding sound, as the stone wall shifts slightly. You've found a secret entrance to the northeast!

You move northeast.
Secret Chamber
This is a small secret chamber on the other side of the sliding wall. The light from the other side of the secret door illuminates this room enough so that you can see. The entire room is dry and dusty and the air is thick as if it has been undisturbed for many years. There are some markings on the walls here and some bones lie in a pile in one corner.
> x bones
These are human bones. A quick look tells you that this was probably a single skeleton that has fallen apart over time. An odd-shaped stone is on the pile of bones.
> get stone
You take the odd-shaped stone from the pile of bones.

Long Tunnel
This is a long tunnel leading north and south. Cracks in the ceiling provide enough light to see. The air in this section of the cave is very thick and humid. The walls here close in on you, barely giving you enough room to pass, but it looks as if they open to the north.

Large Chamber
This is a large underground chamber with passages heading off in various directions. Cracks high up in the ceiling provide just enough light to see. The air is slightly cooler here, but still very humid. You can hear some noises above you in the dark recesses of the ceiling; bats probably. Passages lead south, west, northeast, and northwest. An alcove lies to the east.

You move east.
Alcove
This is a small, natural alcove on the eastern wall of the large chamber. Light from the chamber spills into the alcove, allowing you to see. There is a large rock jutting up from the floor in the middle of the alcove. Even though this room is just off the main chamber, the air in here is thick, making it hard to breathe. The walls of the alcove are covered with strange markings.
> x rock
This large rock looks as though it may have once been a small altar. The top is hollowed slightly as if it could once have been filled with liquid. Dark stains fill the hollow, making you wonder if it wasn't used for blood sacrifices. An Aztec coin is on the large rock.
> get coin
You take the Aztec coin from the large rock.

North-East Corridor
This corridor isn't very wide, and the ceiling is so low that you have to duck slightly. There are some cracks in the ceiling, providing light. The air is very wet, but also thinner than in most of the cave, making it much easier to breathe. You can hear the sound of flowing water to the north.

Sloping Corridor
This corridor slopes downward towards the north. There are some cracks in the ceiling providing light. The air is very wet but is easy to breathe. The walls are still fairly cramped here. You can hear the sound of flowing water to the north. There is a body lying in your way, in the middle of the corridor. It might be difficult to get past without moving it.
> move body
You push the corpse to the side and notice a belt pouch on the body.
> get pouch
You take the small belt pouch from the corpse.

North-West Corridor
With the glow rod, you can see that this is a narrow corridor which runs to the west and southeast back into the large chamber. There is also a small set of natural stairs leading down that look as if they haven't be travelled in decades.

Lower Level
This is a lower level of the cave. Your glow rod casts a pool of light around you, but everywhere else is pitch darkness. The air is less humid down here, but still very thick, making it difficult to breathe. The bottom of the stairs are cramped but it opens up to the west.
> west
You move west.
Huge Chamber
This is a huge, underground chamber. The ceiling is so high up that you can't see it, and your breathing echoes around the chamber. The wall at the far end has a small stone statue in front of it, and there is a large switch on the wall on either side of the statue. Both switches have a faint glyph on the wall above them. Your footsteps echo throughout this huge underground chamber.

This statue is worn with age, and covered with dust. It was once a statue of a man holding a long spear. The man is wearing a headdress although the center-piece for the headdress appears to be missing.
You place the odd-shaped stone into the center hole on the statue's headdress. The small stone melds into the stone of the statue. You hear a faint click.
You pull the switch underneath what appears to be the Incan symbol for water. The switch moves, but nothing seems to happen.

Underground Waterfall
This is a large, underground waterfall. You realize why the cave is so humid, as you are covered with mist. The mist feels good, but you have no time to enjoy it now. The ceiling is very high here, and the walls are very wet and slick. You can see some light shining through the waterfall in one section. There appears to be a passage to the east through the waterfall.
You move east.
Cave Exit
This is the cave exit. The waterfall to the west shows no sign of the hidden entrance. The low mountain that the water falls from juts up into the sky. The sun is blinding and hot, but the mist from the waterfall is refreshing. A thick uninviting jungle lies to the north.
You move north.
Jungle Clearing
This is a clearing in the jungle. The cave is back to the south while thick jungle surrounds you on the west and north sides of the clearing, although both directions still appear passable. The foliage thins a little to the east, where you can make out another mountain. The blinding sun continues to beat down on you.
You move east.
Bottom of Cliff
You are at the bottom of a huge cliff to the east. The jungle has thinned somewhat, making movement quite easy, but also exposing you to the sun once again. You can hear the sound of falling water to the north. To the south lies impassable jungle.
You move north.
Waterfall
The area here opens up at the bottom of the mountain. There is a large waterfall here, covering the area with a fine mist. Before you can enjoy the scenery however, you hear the crack of a gunshot and the moist ground in front of you splatters. Looking up, you see one of Strathairn's mercenaries on a ledge with a high-powered rifle. He takes another shot at you...
You pull out your twin Magnums, jumping to the side and rolling as he fires a few shots into the ground where you were standing. You come up onto your knees and fire a few shots at him, missing.
He fires again and you dive out of the way. You duck behind a rock and wait for him to pause his assault. Suddenly, you dive out again and fire. This time you connect, hitting the man in the arm and chest. He screams and falls backward, rolling off the ledge, down into the rocky bottom of the waterfall.
You sigh with relief, and are about to go search his body, when you feel a crack on the back of your head. You fall down into the mud and lose consciousness.
When you awaken, you find yourself in a small cage somewhere in the jungle. Damian is standing on the other side of the cage.
"Welcome back to the world of the living, Lara," he says. "I warned you, didn't I? I told you to stay away. It was for your own good, you know. I didn't want to see you get hurt."
"Your concern overwhelms me," you spit, wincing at the pain in your head.
"Tut, tut," Damian says. "You brought this on yourself." As Damian talks, he is joined at his side by a woman with green eyes. The woman whispers something to Damian and he nods. "Well, it seems I must be leaving you now. My destiny awaits. Good-bye, Lara." Damian and the woman leave.
You sit back in your make-shift cell and notice a solitary guard outside. You've seen the guard before. His name is Tapper.
"Hey, Tapper," you say, and wait for him to look over towards you. You give him a crooked grin, reach down, and slowly begin to pull your sports top up. Tapper's eyes widen as he watches you lift your shirt up. The bottoms of your breasts come into view and then the shirt pops over the tops of your large breasts as they fall out. Tapper walks to the edge of the cage, staring at you.
"What're you doing?" he asks, stupidly. "You're not trying to escape I hope."
With Tapper standing close to the cage, ogling your breasts, you seize your opportunity. He's caught completely unaware as you punch him hard in the nose. Tapper falls to his knees, a strange look on his face. You kick through the bars, your boot hitting him on the jaw, and he falls back, unconscious.
You take the key from Tapper's belt.
You unlock the cage with the key and step out. You begin to search Tapper's body when you hear noises coming from the tents of Damian's camp. You get up and run into the jungle, ducking behind some bushes. You need to get your equipment back, but it doesn't look like there will be a chance. Some more of Damian's goons find Tapper's unconscious form and start yelling and spreading out, machine guns at the ready. You dart away, moving deeper into the thick jungle. It doesn't take long for you to get lost.
You wander aimlessly, and soon can no longer hear sounds of your pursuers. The sun is hot, so you keep as shaded as you can. Just as you start to despair a little, the jungle thins somewhat, and you appear in a small opening.
Jungle
You are lost in the middle of deep, thick jungle. The tropical trees and plants surround you on all sides with the exception of a very narrow path to the west. The sun is unabating in its attempt to dehydrate you and sap you of all energy.
The jungle all around you is too thick to pass through without a machete at your side, with the exception of the small path to the west. You can't even tell where you entered this little clearing from. You spot an area to the north west where the foliage is slightly thinner. You may be able to squeeze through the trees there.
You move northwest.
Hidden Jungle Path
After struggling through the thick vines and trees, you come across another small clearing. Bits of rock and stonework lie in ruins here, obviously part of the original temple. You feel at ease, tranquil. There's no sign that this area has been disturbed in decades.
You wander around the small clearing, looking at the remains of the temple when you spot a small hole amongst some of the ruins.
You grab onto the sides of the small hole and squeeze yourself in. You begin to lower yourself, when some of the rock at the side gives way and you lose your grip. Your scream is muffled by falling debris as you tumble a good twenty feet, landing hard on some more rock. The hole you entered fills in with stones... you won't be getting out that way.
Hall
This was probably once the entrance hall to the Temple of the Sun. The floor is covered with broken rock and dirt. There were some tiny holes in the ceiling, but the hole you originally came through has filled in with debris; you won't be getting out that way. There are exits to the north and west however.
You move north.
Old Hall
This old hall was obviously once a grand entranceway to the Temple of the Sun. The walls and floor are still in very good shape, and the stonework still shows signs of the original coloring. The hall runs north and south. It doesn't appear that the hall has been disturbed for a long, long time.
You move north.
Hall of Spheres
This oddly shaped room is filled with stone spheres of various sizes, ranging from gigantic to no larger than the size of your head. Most are standing on pillars but a couple are sitting on the stone floor amidst a pile of rubble (obviously the remains of the pillars). The north wall has some markings on it, still easily discernable. Apart for some dust and the crumbled pillars, the room looks pretty much untouched by the passage of time.
Though faded a little, you can still decipher the writings on the wall. It appears to be a riddle which translates roughly as:
"I never was,
am always to be,
No one ever saw me,
nor ever will
And yet I am the confidence of all
To live and breathe on this terrestrial ball."
Apparently you need only speak the answer to gain access to the Sun Obelisk. [When you know it, just type the answer.]
You speak the answer to the riddle and you hear a distant rumble. The spheres that are still on pillars begin to slowly spin where they sit.
You move south.

Ruined Corridor
This corridor has fallen in on itself. You have to struggle over large chunks of rock and debris to move around in here. Very little of the original architecture remains in place. There is a passage leading west.
You move west.
Large Hall
The floor in this large hall has pretty much fallen away. The hole looks to be bottomless. The walls aren't in much better shape. You can see an entrance to another room across the hole to the west, but there doesn't appear to be any way of getting to it.
The crack runs the entire length of the room, across the hole in the ground. It's possible you could shimmy across the crack if you could grab hold of it.
You jump up and grab onto the long crack on the wall. You begin to shimmy your way along the crack, slowly but surely making your way to the far side. Bits of the wall crumble and break off as you move. The entire wall starts to shake and larger chunks of rock give way just as you make it to the far side. More of the wall falls away removing any chance of going back the way you came.
Altar
This appears to have been a place of worship. An old, stone altar stands in the middle of the room in remarkably good shape. There don't appear to be any exits from the room including the way you came since the east wall has collapsed. The other walls appear to be in good shape. It looks as if you're trapped, but at least you're not alone. Jade is here.
You jump forward and attack Jade catching her by surprise. She defends herself, but you land a couple of blows. Jade fires back with a few punches of her own, but you twist out of the way. She screams and lunges at you again, this time landing a couple of fists to the side and head. You stagger slightly, but are able to cartwheel past her when she moves in for the kill. She turns to face you again, and you greet her with a kick to the head. She falls back against the altar, cracking her head against the stone and falling unconscious.
An old, heavy stone altar. It is still in very good condition, with only a few minor cracks and chippings along the sides. The top slab looks like it could be opened.
You wrap your arms around the corner of the altar and pull. Nothing happens for the first few moments, but soon the altar scrapes along the floor. You manage to move it a few inches, when the north wall of the room suddenly slides upward. You move through the new opening into a large chamber.
Damian is standing in the center of a circle of statues. Before him is a tall, white, stone slab. He is running his fingers along the slab, whispering incantations of some sort. Damian stops as he hears you approach. He moves away from the slab and turns to face you.
"You're too late, Lara," he says, and the slab begins to glow slightly. "The power of the Obelisk is mine!" The entire chamber begins to rumble slightly and Damian backs away, staring at the Obelisk in awe. He looks down, and then moves to stand in front of one of the statues. You can't help but stare also. The entrance back to the altar closes behind you. A brilliant orange light flares from the Obelisk, blinding you. You shield your eyes with your hands, but you can't seem to tear your gaze from the Obelisk. Something is about to happen!
Open Chamber
This is a huge chamber that is still in extremely good condition; almost as if it has been untouched by time. The chamber is circular, with no visible exits; the one you came in has closed off showing no signs of ever having been open. There is no ceiling here, the top of the chamber is open to the sky, more than a hundred feet above. There is a circle of statues in the middle of the chamber surrounding the Sun Obelisk, which appears to be nothing more than a tall stone slab. On the floor of the chamber, in front of each statue, is a faded red circle. Damien is standing on one of the circles. The air here is warm and comfortable. Damian is here.
You know there's no way to stop Damian. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen regardless of what you do, so you run and stand on one of the red circles in front of a statue. Just as you arrive, the entire world seems to fold in on itself, and you can no longer keep your eyes open to the light emanating from the Obelisk. There is a loud bang, and a flash, and then you lose consciousness...
You awaken in the jungle, your guide kneeling above you, gently shaking you and pouring water over your head. There is no sign of Damian. When you regain your senses you go searching for the Lost Cave again but cannot seem to find it. It's as if it has completely disappeared...
You spend a few more hours in the jungle, going over the events in your mind. You feel extremely happy; an unnatural euphoria. This then must be the special gift of the Obelisk... nothing more than an ancient feel-good machine, a supernatural high.
You return to Barranca and pack up your gear. Within twenty-four hours, you are back home, sitting poolside, sipping a cold drink. You are in extremely good spirits despite the fact that you were unable to stop Damian. It's a natural good feeling, the power of the Obelisk having all but worn off. You feel even better when you think of the expression on Damian's face when he discovers that the great power he wanted was nothing more than a quick fix.
Smiling to yourself, you stand and dive into the cool water.
