WANTED: LOST GOLD RING

A GOLD RING WAS STOLEN FROM THE BLUE KEG PUB. IF FOUND, PLEASE RETURN FOR A REWARD.

> south
You move south.
The lonely edge of the road where people used to pass. The lonely road stretches far East and West, but the only place around here is to the West.

> west
You move west.
A lone cabin sits abandoned at the edge of the road. It's long uncut grass sways in the gusting wind. A small pile of logs pile against the side of the building, cut down from the forest trees. The road continues West and East.

You stand shivering in the doorway of the cold cabin. The old fireplace that once heated up the place now sits barren and alone in the corner of the room. A small table sits beside it, empty bowls gather dust on top of it. A rattling noise comes from a box that's shaking atop a wooden cabinet. An open trapdoor in the corner of the room leads down into the cellar.

> open box
You open the box and a small rat leaps out. He scurries around the floor and runs out the open door to freedom. You look back in the box to find a small piece of cheese lying at the bottom of the box. You decide to take it as the rat wouldn't need it anymore.

> open cabinet
You open the cabinet. A brass key is inside the cabinet.

> get key
You take the brass key from the cabinet.

> down
You move down.
As you climb down the rickety stairs to the cellar, you notice how dark it is. In the shadows, you can make out a few object. A fridge sits alone near the back, dust covering it just like everything else. Some crates sit beside a desk, they all have the mining unions symbol on them.

> x desk
A large wooden desk is covered in darkness in the corner of the room. A small drawer sits on the side, dust cover its handle.

> open drawer
You slide open the desk drawer and look inside. Near the bottom of the paper pile, you find a coupon. Thinking it'll come in handy, you decide to take it.

> open fridge
You jam the key into the lock and twist it clicking it open. You throw the lock into the shadows of the cellar and pull open the fridge. There's no power to the fridge which makes the smell inside the fridge awful. Pieces of rotting meat are thrown all over the insides of the fridge, all from hunted animals. A large axe leaning against the side is presumably what the animals were cut up with. You quickly grab the axe thinking it will be useful and close the fridge before the smell takes over the cellar.

> up
You climb up the logs like stairs and soon are standing on the shaky roof of the cabin.

> chop boards
You raise the axe high in the air and swing it down onto the boards, shattering them in half. Underneath them is a small hole where a metal box had been hidden.

You open the metal box. A stick of Dynamite is inside the metal box.

At the edge of a small town, the Blue Keg Pub is the one place in the area where you can find the latest information on any treasure findings in the mines. The long road heads back East, and also continues farther into town to the West.

The Blue Keg Pub, home of the drunks of the town. Although it used to be populated by many people from the area, the drunks are the main customers as everyone else has headed up to the mines. The bartender sits behind the bar, a rag over his shoulder. There are some stairs that lead upstairs to the gambling room.

This is where the action is. Four men sit quiet at the table in the middle of the room. Each one holding five cards up to their heads, glancing at each other suspiciously. If anyone one of them thought someone was cheating, all hell would break loose in here. You notice that one of the men has a matchbook under his arm as he scans his cards.

> switch cards
As the men eye each other suspiciously, you take your deck and switch it with the one on the table. One of the men notices the different desk and soon the table is thrown up and the men pull out their guns. With the matchbook thrown to the ground, you pick it up and run down the stairs before you get shot yourself.

This is the only other part of this town you'd bother to stop by. Your home is a small shack that sits near the edge of the town. It's small and dingy now, but just wait until you find that treasure. Your home is probaly the worst in town. Consisting of only one room, you're surprised it even holds up when it rains. Your small bed is in the corner of the room, the only thing on it is a lumpy pillow. A small table sits beside a closet, it's top rarely covered in food. A small lamp sitting in the corner of the room sits atop a cabinet, it's small light barely strong enough to keep the shadows off of it.

> open closet
You open the closet. A hard hat is inside the closet.

You stick the hard hat on your head and do up the straps.

You walk inside of the mines in hope of finding the treasure.

The bartender sits behind the bar, a rag over his shoulder. The door at the top of the stairs is now closed and locked, you're guessing they don't want you messing up their game anymore.

> give ring to bartender
"THE RING! YOU FOUND THE RING! Oh, thank you very much. My wife's going to be so pleased to get the ring back. Look, if there's anything I could do for you, just tell me. I used to be a miner so I'm strong, and I read a lot so I'm pretty smart. Just come ask me about something and I might be able to help you with it."

> ask bartender about boulder
"Hmm...a boulder blocking a shovel. Let's see what I can do."

Before you know it, the bartender has run out of the bar towards the mines. A few minutes later he rushes back in panting.

"Man...that rock was heavy. Well, I moved the rock but there was a little problem. The shovel was kinda broken in two. But hey, here's a free pencil. It's no shovel, but at least its something."

> sign coupon
You quickly pull out the pencil and write your name on the signature.

> give coupon to bartender
"Alrighty. Here's your free bottle of beer. Enjoy. Oh, and next time buy the drink you cheapskate."

A long dark tunnel in the deep mine. South leads you back to the shaft entrance. With the rat now gone, you can now travel further into the mines to the North.

> give cheese to rat
You grab the chunk of cheese and throw it behind you. The large rat runs after it squeaking in joy as it runs away with its food.

> north
You move north.
You now stand at the end of the mines. Hundreds of rocks are piled together to form a barricade in the tunnel. A miner who introduces himself as Gus, tries to shovel away the rocks but with no success.

> give beer to gus
Gus grabs the bottle from you and wanders off to take a break.

> use dynamite on blockage
You quickly light the fuse of the dynamite with the matches and stick it in an open hole in the rocks. You quickly run out of the mine shouting to everyone else to get out. There's a loud explosion and a shaking from inside the mine. You quickly run back in to find the blockage still there.

But, a large hole has been blown into the rocky wall beside the blockage and you look inside. Piles of gold meet your eye as you step inside the hidden room. You start shouting in joy, but shut up before the other miners hear you. You quckly load up the gold and sneak out of the mine with large heavy bags. Surprisingly, no one gets suspicious.

Congratulations, you have found the lost gold. And old Gus, well he finally cleared the blockage in the tunnel and found a rusty tin can on the other side.
