ADRIFT-O-Rama by Mystery> l
You are in the ballroom of ADRIFT 'O' RAMA. There is a huge golf ball machine, filled with hundreds of balls. A sign above the door to the north leads you to believe that the course lies on the other side.
> buy ball
You slide the gold token in the slot and the machine begins to rumble and shake. A golf ball begins to descend down the chute, around and around, until it reaches the hole. You manage to catch it as it flies out. You have a steel blue golf ball.
> n
Well, what do you know, the first hole is right here. You go through the door and it disappears, leaving you stuck at the first hole.
> l
Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. Small dips and hills run the length of the straight course, littered with spinning question marks. At the end, a large man sits where he is banging a computer over what appears to be the hole where the ball needs to go.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You give a hard swing, launching your ball off the spinning question marks, into a dip, over a hill, and right into the hole! NICE SHOT! Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. A thick layer of ice covers the course. A giant penguin waddles from side to side, at the end of the course, covering then exposing the hole under its feet. Smaller penguins skate about the course, making it harder for a clean shot.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
The ball slides across the ice being shoved around by the penguins that are skating in every direction. To the left, then to the right, the ball sinks into the hole, barely missing being pushed away by the foot of the massive, waddling penguin. Nice Shot! Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. The course twists and turns around a chalk outline, pool of blood, and a large magnifying glass that spins on its end, slowly revealing the hole. It looks like there are little bugs crawling about all over the course.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You slice the ball into the air and it lands right in the hole! Nice Shot! Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. Blowing dust shoots across the course, making it hard to see what lies at the end. You can barely make out a man in black, standing outside a fake saloon, between you and a few tumbleweeds that blow across the course. He looks like he is waiting to draw his gun.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
The ball instantly takes flight, disappearing into the wall of dust. You hear screams from the man in black and gunshots going off like mad. When the dust clears, the ball is in the hole and the man in black is nowhere to be found. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. A narrow cord of rope hangs between two pointy mountains. On the other side there is a long ironing board with a hole at the end. Steaming hot irons swing back and forth, threatening to burn through the rope bridge that separates the ball from the hole. Another hot iron rises and falls, covering the hole.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You hit the ball, shooting it far past the ironing board on the other side. It disappears out of sight, but you never hear it hit solid ground. You stand there, dumbfounded, wondering how you are supposed to get your ball back. With a startling cry, a bald eagle appears over the mountain and drops your ball into the hole. How's that for luck? Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. Cute little anime girls are standing along the looping course that is also the resting-place for a couple of spoons. Large blades, appearing to be from a helicopter, rotate at a moderate speed over the hole.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You wait for the blades to slow down enough and make your shot. The ball rolls through the loop at a fairly good speed and rockets of a spoon on the other side and into the hole. Nice shot! Before you lies the marker where you place your ball. All along the hilly course are dozens of chocolate wielding teddy bears, running amuck. Some of them are tossing chocolate back and forth, some are launching rockets at each other, and some are operating a large press that rises and falls hard, covering the hole where you need to get the ball in.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You lightly put the ball down the course, and it stops about half way to the hole. A couple of teddy bears are running from a slightly larger bear with a rocket launcher. One of them trips over the ball, landing on his face and smashing it in. The ball rolls toward the hole, but is knocked away by the falling press. Another teddy bear kicks the ball out of his way and into the hole when the press raises up again. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. The course is steep and inclines up to meet two old men sitting in a balcony. A chicken paces back and forth in front of the hole that sits right in in front of the balcony.
Stapler chuckles, "There's only one trouble with his face." Waldork questions, "What's that? It shows?"
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
"You have a strange growth on your neck," Stapler says, looking toward you. "Your head!" Both of the old men crack up laughing.
> hit ball
No sense in feeding your ego. You made the shot, now get lost. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. Tall, spooky trees rustle and shake in the darkness. Now and then, red glowing eyes can be seen from various places in the dark woods. A random flash of lightning now and then allows you enough light to view the course, and see the hole at the end. Large rats scurry all around leaving you feeling very uncomfortable.
A bright flash of lightning illuminates the entire rat filled course, giving brief light to the dark woods. Unfortunately it doesn't last long enough to tell what the evil looking, glowing red eyes are from.

Swinging the club back, it suddenly gets caught on something. Slowly you turn...step by step...inch by inch... Oh, that was from that one movie. You look and see that your ball is caught in one of the trees. Tugging and pulling, the club breaks free, spins around, smacks the ball and goes right in the hole. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. You get the distinct impression you're at a circus, but don't see any animals. Peanuts and popcorn litter the winding course and you are sure that is going to make getting the ball in the hole a difficult task. On the other side of the course there is a large calliope, which seems to be playing by itself. At the end of the course there is a very large, evil looking clown. Its oversized shoe taps anxiously from side to side, exposing and covering the hole.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You putt the ball down the course, over several squashed pieces of popcorn and peanuts. The ball catches on the edge of the clown's foot and is knocked into the hole. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. A miniature hot air balloon floats up and down just over the hole. When it descends, a sandbag conceals the hole in which you must hit the ball. A giant statue of a white, glossy poodle stands at the end of the course, just beyond where the mini hot air balloon is located. For some strange reason there are hundreds of little bunny rabbits hopping all over the flat course.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You smack the ball hard and it flies up into the air, off the balloon..."Oh that had to hurt!" ...off a bunny's nose, and right into the hole. Try to forget about the little bunny...he didn't see it coming. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. The course zigzags in all sorts of directions and is covered with dozens of splintery, wooden shoes. Along the edges of the course there is a ton of Shit-on-a-Stick, and enough of it to make you gag. A very large elephant is pacing back and forth at the end of the course, swinging its trunk over the hole.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You hit it with the club and stand in horror at the large elephant that is approaching in anger. Before you can even let out a scream, the elephant scoops you up in his massive trunk and starts slamming you into the ground, impaling you with Shit On A Stick™. Now covered in poo, the elephant proceeds to roll you in the wooden shoes, which stick to you very easily. "OH NO YOU DON'T!" a voice orders, from somewhere you can't seem to see. "YOU CAN'T PUT THAT CLUB THEREEEEEEE...(The rest is drowned our by your screams)Oh, too late." The next thing you know, you are in an unknown place, having the club removed from a place you'd rather not mention. A short time later you are cleaned up and returned back to the hole.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You hit the ball into the thick smoke and it quickly disappears. You begin walking through the smoke, trying to find your ball when you happen upon the hole. Mut is sitting there, cross legged, pointing at the ball and laughing, "You've got dimply balls! Hahahah!" Then he suddenly stops, looks up at you and asks, "What was I saying?" Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. Scattered about the course, there are several stacks of papers containing writings of short stories and such. Jellybeans are strewn all over the place and there is a revolving bookcase near the end, revealing the hole as it turns.

Well, aren't you talented? You managed to avoid all of the obstacles and get it into the hole. Now if only you were talented enough to write your own game. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. Lying to each side of the twisty course are several tiny dragons that blow fire. A narrow ramp leads up towards a giant wooden fish holding its mouth wide open, waiting for the ball.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
You swing the club over your shoulder and smack the ball past the mini fire-breathing dragons, up the ramp, and into the mouth of the giant wooden fish. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. The course is dark, swept with high, purple hued clouds that thicken further out. The only illumination is from distant flashes of lightning streaking through the hot summer air. The hole at the end of the course glows brightly from an unknown source of light. The course itself is made up of several segregated sections that seem to twist and turn creating a maze of paths that lead in various directions. Now and then the pieces will join in perfect formations that provide a path to the hole.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
Hitting the ball as hard as you can, you launch it into the air, completely skipping over the maze. Yep, it's in the hole. Lucky you! Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. A large mountain rises up high and the course spirals upward around its outer edge. At the top there is a large sign, and the hole is partially visible on the slope.
> x sign
The sign is swinging back and forth at the top of the mountain.
> read sign
GUESS THE VERB!
> guess the verb
Nice job! You guess the verb! The ball magically takes flight into the air and lands in the hole. Before you lies the marker where you place your steel blue ball. Stacks of papers, books, and computer manuals are strewn about all over the place, along with bug reports from crazed Drifters. Campbell is at the end of the course, sitting on a sofa, looking over some of the bug reports. A little kitten is playing around, attacking a cable that runs across the course and out of sight. Campbell is, once again, sitting on the sofa looking over bug reports from users of ADRIFT.
> put ball on marker
You put the golf ball onto the marker.
> hit ball
Swinging the club over your shoulder, you hit the ball as hard as you can with the club. Watching like she's about to catch a critter, the Wild kitty leaps into the air and catches the ball and lands right in Campbell's lap. The reaction of kitten claws on you lap usually isn't pleasant....and wasn't in this case either. Campbell jumps into the air, shoving the cat off as he rises, sending the kitten scrambling for cover. In the commotion, the ball rolls off the couch and straight for the hole. You made it!
