The Screen Savers On Planet X by J. J. Sonick [Joshua Lawrence]

Your spacecruiser lands on Planet X, and you are escorted to the studio where the episode will be filmed.

When you get near the set, however, you hear line producer Russ Pitts speaking on the intercom, saying, " WHO'S missing?"

You hear line producer Josette Persson respond, "Well, just about everybody: Leo, Patrick, Martin, Scott, Megan, Jessica, Joshua, Cat, Morgan, Tom, Roger, Yosh, and Darci...*sigh*. We HAVE to get everyone together to go through these changes that've been made to the run-down."

Look's like it's up to you to save the show! You'll have to find out where your beloved Screen Savers are and help them get back to the studio. Good luck!

You are in a room that's directly outside the studio's live set. A large plate-glass window is set in the southern wall through you can see people adjusting cameras and setting up lights. You also notice Russ and Josette, the line producers, running around frantically waving their arms. To the north is the studio's main hall. To the east is the snack room.

You start to install Galaxy Linux on Megan's G4. The screen displays, "You are not Megan Morrone. You may not....Oh, Galaxy Linux? Wow! I'm sure she won't mind!" The G4 happily accommodates you and soon a smiling galactic Tux graphic is appearing on the screen. As soon as this happens, the purple penguins as one jump into the air and begin flapping and circling about the G4, whistling happy little tunes. Megan exhales loudly, gets up, dusts herself off and then says, "Thanks! You saved me from a truly annoying experience. I better run to the set." With a smile and a wave, she trots off to the set.

"I'm sorry to do this to you, but you've got to help me!" he cries. "I can't remember the name of the first president of the U.S. Congress and it's driving me crazy! I can't let you out until you help me remember." After speaking, Tom falls back into frustrated contemplation. Behind you, you hear Joshua wake up with a start. "Hey," he says, "What was that cool ZAP noise? You know, I was having the funniest dream: It was like the beginning of The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, when Arthur Dent is sleeping and his house is about to be destroyed by a bulldozer...Ah, never mind." It immediately begins to tear into the immense pile of Patrick's stuff, heroically and maniacally shredding papers and books, pulling apart and digesting hardware, and vaporizing game boxes.

You also see Leo tied to a chair in the middle of the room, being harangued by what you assume is the leader of the aliens. "You see, Mr. Laporte, we have you now! Thought SETI was stupid, eh? No intelligent life out there, eh? Ha-ha! Guess you were WRONG!" Leo, whose mouth is gagged, rolls his eyes. "Furthermore, Mr. Laporte," continues the alien leader, "...we know that your co-host Mr. Norton has callously killed several of our lesser brothers with his careless installation techniques. For this both of you will pay!" Also here is a metal sheet. Leo is here.

> read sheet
"To do list: Fix the space/time rift in the storage room. Location of rift in space: Sector 3071."

> out
You exit the Saucer and are back in space near the rocket.

> enter rocket
You float over to the rocket and climb back inside.

> push blue button
You press the blue button and abruptly the rocket spins around and blasts off towards Planet X. The speed of its descent is frightening, and you are almost sure you are going to crash into the Launch Pad instead of landing on it, but at the last possible moment the rocket does a graceful flip that turns your stomach and lightly lands on the Pad.
You hear some gurgling sounds as the rocket is refuelled, then silence. You are in the small, crowded cockpit of the rocket. The rocket is resting on the Launch Pad. There is a console here.

> turn dial to 3071
You turn the dial to 3071.

> push green button
You press the green button and the ship takes off with a roar, quickly blasting its way out of Planet X's atmosphere. Within minutes you approach a what looks to be a rip in the fabric of space and time, and slow to a stop.
You are in the small, crowded cockpit of the Rocket. There is a console here. Through the window you can see a gaping rift in the space time continuum. You may exit the rocket to go into space (provided you are properly attired).

> out
You exit the rocketship. You are floating in space, just a short distance from the rocketship. There is a space/time rift here. You may enter the rocket or, if you are brave, the rift.

> enter rift
With no small amount of fear, you plunge head first into the rift. You are spiral down a long purplish tunnel and then are spit out into a strange room. Elaborate silicon wiring snakes along the walls and ceilings of this room. A pale green glow from an unidentifiable source fills the area. There is a red crate and a yellow crate here. Going south will take you through the space/time rift and back into space.

> x yellow crate
The crate is marked "King Size Cooling Fans." A sticker is on the yellow crate.

> get sticker
You take the sticker from the yellow crate.

> put sticker on red crate
You firmly affix the sticker to the red crate. As you do, something that was hidden on the wall above flutters to the floor.

> get patch
You pick up the space/time patch.

> s
You climb into the rift and are zapped back to a place in space near the rocket.

> use patch
You apply the patch and it immediately expands to a huge size, like a giant band aid, covering the rift.

> enter rocket
(Your score has increased by 10)
You float over to the rocket and climb back inside. Once you enter, you hear Cat's voice from the console. "Hey, whatever you did fixed the transmission problem!" she says. "The Netcam Cineplex is rocking full-on! I'm going to the set now! Thanks!" Her transmission ends.

> out
You exit the rocketship. You are floating in space near the rocketship. A flying saucer is nearby. You may enter either the saucer or the rocket.

> enter saucer
(Your score has increased by 10)
You slip inside the flying saucer through one of its air ducts. When you enter, you see the alien leader saying, "Hey, doesn't it seem hot in here to you guys?" Suddenly, his fan sputters to a halt. "Hey!" he says, grabbing a nearby lackey. "Go get me a new cooling fan from the storage room, huh?" The lackey rushes off and soon returns with a giant cooling fan in his hands.
"Alright, slap that baby on," the leader commands. The lackey gently takes off the leader's faulty fan, and begins to attach the new fan, when you suddenly hear a sickly crunching sound and the leader falls to the floor.
"Oh no!" cries the lackey. "It was a non-approved cooling fan! I've broken the leader!" The crew erupts into chaos, carrying off their broken leader and frantically leaving in silicon escape pods. Soon it's just you and Leo.
Leo quickly unties himself and says, "Man, they were annoying, weren't they? Listen, I think there's a teleporter over here that will take us to..." As he speaks, he leads you over to a bright green globe which suddenly flashes and both of you are back in front of the studio.
Leo says, "Well, I better head over to the set. Thanks a million! We'll get some very special swag for you!" He shakes you hand and walks off to the studio.
In the distance, you see the rocket returning to the Launch Pad by autopilot. Why isn't it that smart when you're in it?

> e
You move east.
You are on a twisty path full of annoying curlicues and knots. A sign point south says, "To the Rocket Pad" while another sign pointing east says, "To the Dusty Sea of Dust." West will lead you back to the entrance to the studio.

The Dusty Sea of Dust certainly lives up to its name. It is a huge mass of, well, dust, billowing about in an immense canyon that you're standing at the edge of. There's a bronze telescope here. It seems like you can just barely make out a speck of something floating on the Sea in the distance.

> put tape in megaphone
You can't put anything inside the music megaphone! You put the punk tape in the megaphone. It's a tight fit, so it's unlikely you'll be able to get it out again.

> play megaphone
(Your score has increased by 10)
The megaphone blasts out tunes from "12 Punk Songs You Don't Know But Love Anyway" at an incredibly high volume.
The music seems to reach Patrick and inspires him to turn his sailboat your way. Soon he is climbing out of the boat and facing you. "Dude, that tape rocks! I've been looking for it forever!" he says. You fill him in on the situation and he says, "Thanks! I'll see you on the set." and runs off in the direction of the studio.

You can see Megan on the set, trying to get her Download of the Day to work. You can see Jessica on the set, looking at her Site of the Nite. You can see Yosh messing with some hardware on the set. You can see Joshua on the set, sorting through faxes. You can see Darci on the set, gutting some old 386 for its parts. You can see Martin on the set, practicing his fly moves. You can see Tom on the set reading a Philip K. Dick book. You can see Roger playing MAME on one of the set computers. You can see Patrick on the set smashing a CD-RW drive with a sledgehammer. You can see Scott on the set setting one of Leo's Hawaiian shirts on fire. You can see Cat on the set sorting through the B-roll tapes. You can see Leo on the set slamming the fridge so all the letters come sliding off.
